This is the first song I wrote after Mom died. It is not only about the grief, but the way life just goes on around you while you are frozen in the moment, trying to make sense of your life without them there. And how you do not want to be carried down the stream of time, away from them, each day pushing them farther and farther back into your memory.

Lyrics

LIKE WATER
In memory of Elizabeth LePera

This autumn road
Haunts me everywhere I go
And the tides they turn
These days they flow like water

Deep in the night
I try to fight it
And the rhymes they come
These days they flow like water

And the through the years
There were never many tears
Your gentle voice
Chased them all away

So many times
I walked through the mines
Forgetting all
The gifts you gave me

And the tides they turn
And the pain it burns
And oh so many things
These days they flow like water

You’re a castaway
On a cold winter’s day
I long to see your smile
But these days, they flow like water

And the tides they turn
And the pain it burns
And I walk the path to you
These days they flow like water

You were a gift to all
Before your fall
And we try to go on
But these days they flow like water

And the tides they turn
And the pain it burns
And I walk the path to you
These days they flow like water
There days they flow like water.
